Sunset Nails - ombre polish tutorial

So, the sun is shining (for the time being anyway) and what better way to mark the occasion buy sipping on a gloriously summery cocktail with these sunshine inspired nails?

Ombre nail polish is super trendy at the moment, with every beauty blogger under the sun sporting different hues one day to the next…here’s how you can get the look using things you’ll probably have at home!

Step one

Find a perfect indulgent spot and make sure you have everything you need including;

1. 3 nail polishes (for sunset ombre you will need nude or pink, orangey pink/coral and gold)

I'm using;
Pink: Rococo in Babette
Orange; Ciate The Glossip
Gold: Ciate Ladylike Luxe

2. Nail polish remover in a small container and plenty of cotton buds
3. One eye-shadow applicator
4. An old glossy magazine or similar (something with a non-absorbent surface that you don’t mind spoiling with nail polish)
5. A glass of wine or some other favorite tipple to enjoy during the process!

TOP TIP: Make sure you take any necessary bathroom breaks before you start…opening the buttons for your skinny jeans with newly varnished fingers is never easy!

Step two

Prepare your nails by cleaning any old polish away and trimming your cuticles. Then apply a base coat to protect your nail. I love Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails

Step three

Begin by applying two coats of the lightest colour and allowing them to dry a little.

Step four

With the orange Ciate polish and using the brush, apply a generous amount to your glossy surface.  Take your eye-shadow applicator to the orange polish and dip in the colour. Next dab off some of the excess (not too much) and begin to build up the colour on the nail using the dabbing motion. It’s very important that you don’t drag the applicator across your nail, as you’ll end up taking the colour away.  Apply the orange to the top two thirds of your nail.

Step five

Next, using the same technique and the gold Ciate polish, apply to the top third of the nail.  If you want to intensify the colour at the tip you can paint directly from the brush, but take care not to go too close to the blurry edge.

Step six (Optional)

At this point you can add an extra bit of detail such as an embellishment. As you will see I have added a sun image using MoYou nail system.  A single crystal applied using a little nail glue looks equally attractive!

Step seven

Often overlooked, the top-coat is very important in ensuring the durability of your manicure.  After spending you precious time creating it, you’ll want it to last as long as possible. Once again, I recommend Sally Hansen. Insta-Dri provides all the protection of a top-coat while also speeding up the dry time of your new look! Amazing…

Step eight

Allow your nails to dry for a few minuets then gently apply a tiny amount of cream into your cuticles. Watch this spake for the launch of Rococo's offering in this department which will be coming out soon! Et voila…
